ROMP Review: Affordable, High-Quality Sex Toys from We-Vibe.
You’ll find a lot of the same body-safe silicone coatings, wide-ranging intensity levels, and waterproof bodies in the ROMP line that you would expect from a luxury sex toy. They’re a great way to try a new style of toy on a budget, or to find a sex toy that feels great under $50.
Think of these toys the same way that you’d approach demi-fine jewelry: they’re not luxury items, but they look and feel fantastic regardless.
The ROMP Beat Bullet Vibrator is the perfect introduction to this new line of sex toys. Covered in silky-smooth silicone with a beautiful, quilted finish, it’s 6″ long and 1 1/4″ wide. And, despite its tiny price, the Beat packs intense, rumbly vibrations.
I’m completely enamoured with the ROMP Wave (below), but I can see the Beat becoming the brand’s biggest hit. Its vibrations seriously outperform its price tag, and its textured body gives it a surprising versatility.
ROMP’s classically-shaped Flip Wand Massager is similarly powerful, but with higher- pitched vibrations. It’s also a similar size: the Beat is a lot larger than most bullet vibrators, and the Flip Wand is much smaller than most wands. This waterproof, rechargeable wand massager is a mere 9″ long, but it runs for a full hour on a single charge.
ROMP offers plenty of “standard” designs to budget-conscious consumers: well-loved formats like bullets, wand massagers, and even rabbit-style vibrators. However, it also features two designs that I think are quite unique.
The ROMP Juke Cockring and Wave Lay-On Vibrator stood out to me. Like the Flip Wand, they’re some of the brand’s buzzier offerings. However, that doesn’t hold them back. The Juke’s body is crafted from a single piece of unusually stretchy silicone, which makes it much easier to don and remove than other cock rings. It’s easy to wash at the sink before and after every use.
But the ROMP Wave—well, the Wave is everything you could imagine and more.
The ROMP Wave is thin and extremely flexible, with a leaf-like shape. Soft and cushy, it fits easily between your legs or between you and something (or someone) else. You can rub or bump up against it at any angle without feeling any pinching or hesitation from the toy. It’s four patterns and six intensity levels are perfect for use anywhere on the body, and it can deliver both broad and pinpoint stimulation wherever it’s called for.
I love the Wave’s flexibility, both metaphorically and literally. Its teal tone is unique and genderless, as is its name: it is, simply, named for its shape. The raised centre ridge and soft, upturned nose of this toy make it easy to sit or lay on, and it fits comfortably in the palm of one’s hand.
While I’m usually very wary of panty-sized toys due to their buzzy vibrations, I think the vibrations work for the Wave. Like the ocean, it laps gently at your skin, heightening your sensations with each delicate touch. (And yes, you can use it in the tub.)
For phallic fiends, the affordable ROMP line also offers two insertable vibrators. These vivid vibrators look almost candy-coloured with their bright yellow bases, and like the rest of this line, they come with two in-package bonuses: a set of stickers and a “Happy?/ Sad?” satisfaction card.
Jazz is ROMP’s flagship magenta rabbit vibrator, while Hype is the brand’s orange g-spot curve vibrator. The two toys are quite similar. They feature a range of 6 intensity levels and 4 patterns, with waterproof bodies and rechargeable batteries. They also use the same recharging plug, and are about the same size. Each one features a super squishy tip that’s great for both internal and external use, and each has a bit of flex along its length.
Where the ROMP Jazz and Hype differ is their silhouette. The Jazz comes with an additional rabbit arm that the Hype was designed without. The arm isn’t powered independently; rather, it reflects the vibrations coming from the toy’s main motor. The vibrations feel higher-pitched (less rumbly) in its rabbit arm, but the arm’s pure silicone shape means that it’s extremely soft and flexible.
None of these things are unique to ROMP toys, but they feel breathtaking for what you’re paying. As a sex toy expert, soft silicone is usually something that you see from a high- end brand, but ROMP is using it left and right. It gives the Jazz and Hype a wonderful, sensuous squish; the Juke, an ease of use; the Flip Wand, a flexible neck that’s safe to take into the tub.
Finally, for folks looking for affordable clitoral stimulation, the ROMP line has three different air pulse toys. Designed using Womanizer’s Pleasure Air Technology, this touchless technique means that you’ll never experience vibrational numbing.
These three toys, the ROMP Free, Switch, and Shine, are the one spot of the ROMP line where I think you can feel its affordability. They’re excellent toys with great batteries and waterproof bodies, but they just aren’t made to the same quality as the rest of the line. Their charging magnets are weak and easy to jostle off, and their silicone heads are loose to the point of occasionally popping off during use.
Despite these problems… ROMP’s Pleasure Air toys are fantastic for the price. They start off gently and quietly, but build to intense, toe-curling levels just like a Womanizer toy. Try out this unique sensation with Shine (a great dupe for the Womanizer Classic, Pro40, or Premium), the Switch (which is battery-powered), or the Free, whose mini size is travel-ready. But, when you do so, be prepared to end up with a luxury Womanizer toy on your Christmas wishlist—because their unique sensation will leave you wanting more, more, more.
